University of Minnesota Crookston Hosts 5K Walk/Run to Support Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

The University of Minnesota Crookston is set to host its inaugural Regal’s Run 5K run/walk on Saturday, April 26, aiming to raise funds for the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship commemorates the lives of Camden Dean, aged nine, and Maxwell Dean, aged one, who tragically lost their lives in a car accident on March 25, 2018. The boys were traveling with their mother and sister at the time. Both Camden and Maxwell were the children of UMC alumni Trista Curry and Bryan Dean.

The Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship was established to support University of Minnesota Crookston students, fostering the legacy of kindness and generosity the Dean brothers’ lives embodied. The #CamdentotheMax Foundation, dedicated to promoting kindness and pay-it-forward initiatives, also honors their memory. The MGMT 4200 Project Management class at the university is spearheading the event’s organization, encouraging community participation and support.

The 5K event, scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m., will take place regardless of weather conditions and will be followed by a Children’s Fun Run. Interested participants can register online until April 19, with a registration fee of under $35 for the 5K and less than $13 for the Children’s Fun Run. All proceeds from the event will contribute to the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship endowment, which is nearing its $25,000 goal, needing less than $5,000 to reach completion.

University students have been actively fundraising for the endowment, and this event marks a significant opportunity for community involvement. Moreover, tax-deductible donations are accepted online, further contributing to the scholarship fund. The Project Management students organizing the event are also reaching out for donations, sponsorships, and “race-day swag” for attendees. Megan Peterson can be contacted by those interested in supporting or sponsoring the event. Sponsors will receive recognition through various advertising avenues, including event signage and ads on the Community Voice app and the official event website.

Community Impact

This event represents a meaningful opportunity for the local community to come together in support of a noble cause. By participating in or contributing to the Regal’s Run 5K, individuals can help ensure the continuation of educational opportunities through the Camden & Maxwell Dean Memorial Scholarship. The event not only strengthens community bonds but also highlights the importance of compassion and generosity, values cherished by the brothers it commemorates.

Sponsorship and participation in the run provide local businesses and residents a platform for community engagement and positive visibility. The initiative fosters a spirit of collaboration, allowing businesses to demonstrate their commitment to local causes and education. Additionally, the event stands as a testament to the enduring impact of kindness, offering a source of inspiration and hope in the face of tragedy.
