A graduate student who experienced the horrifying moments firsthand recounted her ordeal. She, along with her friend, attempted to escape when the gunfire erupted. Unfortunately, she fell during the attempt and was subsequently shot. Recalling the advice from her parents during such emergencies, she remained motionless, playing dead in hopes of avoiding further injury.
Six individuals were transported to medical facilities for treatment, with injuries ranging from gunshot wounds to the torso and face. Despite the severity of the situation, medical professionals reported that all patients were in relatively stable condition. The patients were coherent, communicating their conditions and areas of pain to the attending doctors.
Among the six, three were taken into surgery at Tallahassee Memorial, a facility known for its proximity to the Florida State University campus and its quick response capabilities. As a level two trauma center, the hospital is well-prepared for such emergencies, conducting annual drills that simulate mass shooting scenarios. These simulations involve comprehensive participation from various departments, ensuring a coordinated response.
Medical staff speculate that two of the patients might be discharged soon, although details regarding their identities remain undisclosed. It is not confirmed whether the shooter, who was injured by law enforcement, is among those being treated.
