Early Thursday morning, a 14-year-old became the victim of a shooting in Fort Lauderdale’s downtown area.
At approximately 1:29 a.m., police responded to an incident on the 200 block of SW 3rd Avenue. A gathering of teenagers, who had just attended a nearby club event, filled the streets when the shooting occurred.
According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, an unidentified individual within the crowd discharged a firearm, injuring the adolescent. Despite the chaotic scene, the victim’s injuries are not deemed life-threatening. The teenager was promptly transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.
Eyewitness Jared Peter described the moment, saying, “We heard one, one shot go off. There were people running all over the place.” His account underscores the fear and confusion that prevailed in the aftermath of the shooting.
