A tragic incident in southwest Miami-Dade has led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man on charges of vehicular homicide following a deadly crash in November.
Michael Anthony Smith, a resident of Cutler Bay, was detained Monday at the Florida Highway Patrol headquarters in Doral. The arrest stems from a fatal crash that took place on November 26 at around 6 p.m., north of 232nd Street along Southwest 112th Avenue.
Authorities reported that Smith was driving an Audi when he hit 14-year-old Lazaro Martinez, who was walking home with a 10-year-old companion. The collision was so forceful that Martinez was thrown over 100 feet, causing horror at the scene as his body parts were spread across a significant area.
The younger child, who witnessed the tragic event, informed police that the Audi was speeding before it hit Martinez.
