President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Anthony Salisbury, a veteran of Homeland Security Investigations in Miami, as the new deputy homeland security advisor.
Anthony Salisbury currently leads Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Miami, managing federal law enforcement programs that focus on national security and smuggling violations. His extensive role covers areas such as counter-proliferation, financial crimes, and human trafficking. Trump’s selection of Salisbury for this pivotal role brings his significant law enforcement experience to the forefront.
Salisbury has previously served as the acting deputy executive associate director of HSI in Miami. Moreover, he has been a key figure in overseeing the activities of HSI offices throughout the Republic of Mexico, holding the position of deputy attaché. This experience underlines his capability to handle complex international issues, making him a fitting choice for his new role at a national level.
In a statement on Truth Social, the former president highlighted Salisbury’s background in counter-narcotics and counter-cartel operations as crucial to his new responsibilities. Trump emphasized that Salisbury will collaborate closely with Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor.
Salisbury’s credentials were further illustrated by his comments in September, following the seizure of an aircraft owned by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. At the time, he asserted HSI’s global reach and expertise in addressing criminal activities, even when involving high-profile government figures. Speaking at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport, Salisbury noted, “Today’s actions are a testament that HSI, as the principal investigative arm of Homeland Security, has the expertise, the reach, and the global partnerships to effect change against anyone, including powerful government heads who believe they are beyond reach.”
This nomination positions Salisbury alongside Stephen Miller, known for his hardline stance on immigration policy, which suggests a robust approach to security and immigration issues in the coming administration.
With Anthony Salisbury’s nomination as deputy homeland security advisor, the Trump administration underscores its commitment to leveraging experienced law enforcement professionals in national security roles. His extensive background in managing complex investigations and international operations marks a strategic choice for strengthening homeland security efforts.
