Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a package theft that occurred a month ago in South Miami, highlighting the effectiveness of surveillance and community cooperation.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of December 6th, when a package was reported missing from a porch located in the 6900 block of Southwest 63rd Avenue. Surveillance footage captured the theft, revealing a woman taking the package and fleeing in a black Ford Mustang.
Local news outlets broadcast the footage, prompting a tip to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers. This crucial lead identified the suspect as Leydis Vega. Further investigation on social media corroborated her identity, as images matched her appearance during the theft, notably her distinct hair bows.
Law enforcement officials visited an address linked to Vega, as listed on her driver’s license. It was discovered to be her ex-husband’s residence. Upon speaking with him, he acknowledged the footage, confirming Vega’s involvement.
On January 6th, Vega turned herself in, facing charges of burglary and petit theft. Her arrest was followed by the apprehension of Dariel Massip, suspected to be the getaway driver. Massip was charged with criminal solicitation. Both suspects were held in custody, with Vega held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center due to a domestic violence warrant and Massip at the Metrowest Detention Center without bond due to various outstanding warrants.
