ATV Linked to Disturbing Geese Deaths in Cooper City

Surveillance footage released by detectives has captured an ATV they suspect was involved in the unsettling deaths of 30 geese in Cooper City, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

On the evening of Saturday, December 28, near Southwest 49th Street and Southwest 120th Avenue, witnesses reported an ATV, carrying four to five young adults, deliberately running over Egyptian geese. This incident took place in the lake easement area bordering Flamingo Gardens West subdivision and the Countryside Shops Plaza.

Resident Brian Schafler recounted the harrowing scene to local news, describing how the vehicle “went back and forth, savagely running over these birds in the evening.” This deliberate act of cruelty has shocked the community and raised concerns about wildlife safety in the area.

The surveillance video further reveals the individuals navigating through the Flamingo Townhomes subdivision before disappearing from view. This critical evidence is now part of an ongoing investigation led by the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Special Victims Unit.

Authorities have urged anyone with details about the ATV or those responsible to come forward. Detective Charoudis Dimos is leading the inquiry and can be reached at 954-321-4243. Alternatively, information can be submitted anonymously via the SaferWatch app or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS, with potential rewards for helpful tips.

The gruesome incident involving the geese has sparked outrage and calls for justice within the community. As the investigation continues, authorities hope to identify and apprehend those responsible for this act of senseless violence.
