A shocking incident of gun violence unfolded outside a popular burger place in Wynwood, as revealed by newly obtained surveillance footage.
The video showcases an unsettling encounter where 27-year-old Disomel Borges is seen attacking and punching a man before firing a gun. The altercation took place outside the vibrant burger hangout, Skinny Louie, and was caught on cameras belonging to the eatery and an adjacent smoke shop.
The footage captures the victim initially attempting to retreat inside the restaurant, only to reemerge with a firearm in hand. Just moments later, a muzzle flash indicates Borges fired shots, striking the man multiple times in the wrist, groin, calf, and buttocks. The victim, however, indicated to the police that he might also have discharged his weapon in self-defense during the tumultuous exchange.
From his hospital bed, the victim, who prefers to keep his identity private, shared insights into the potential motive behind the assault. He explained that Borges and his family were agitated over his relationship with one of their cousins. ‘As soon as I saw him, he sucker-punched me,’ recounted the victim, who credits his instinctive reaction of raising his hand to shield his face as the reason he escaped severe head injuries. ‘If I didn’t put my hand up, he would have hit me in my head. He hit me in my leg a couple of times but I didn’t even feel it. I was just running off in the heat of the moment.’
Michael Vega, a representative from the Miami Police Department, confirmed the two individuals were acquainted and suggested the altercation might stem from past disputes or retaliatory motives.
Following the attack, the wounded man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he received treatment and was later discharged. Borges now faces a suite of legal challenges, including a charge of attempted second-degree murder, alongside 15 additional charges. These are related to the alleged assault of 12 patrons inside the restaurant during the gunfire incident.
The legal proceedings are underway, with state attorneys advocating for Borges’s continued detention until his upcoming trial. Judge Lody Jean is anticipated to make a decision regarding Borges’s custody status on the following Tuesday.
