Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are actively searching for a driver involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Pompano Beach over the weekend.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Traffic Homicide Unit is concentrating its efforts on locating the driver responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on Saturday morning. According to BSO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman, the distress call was received at approximately 5:55 a.m., indicating a collision on the 2700 block of West Atlantic Boulevard.
Upon arriving at the scene, BSO deputies, along with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue, discovered a woman who had been struck by a vehicle. Despite being swiftly transported to Broward Health North, the victim succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter.
Initial investigations suggest that the pedestrian was crossing northbound on West Atlantic Boulevard when an eastbound vehicle tragically hit her. Witnesses report that the vehicle involved is believed to be a dark-colored sedan. A male driver allegedly exited the vehicle, acknowledged the injured pedestrian on the roadway, but then returned to his car and fled northbound on Powerline Road.
Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the driver of the sedan.
