According to a police news release, officers responded to a report of an armed individual at the Hampton Inn located at 5500 Stone Creek Circle shortly before 7 p.m. A caller informed dispatchers that Metcalf was present in the lobby, allegedly unclothed and behaving irrationally while brandishing a firearm. Witnesses stated that attempts were made to calm the suspect before police arrived.
Authorities report that as responding officers approached the lobby, a victim fled the area. Police state that at this moment, Metcalf discharged his weapon toward both the fleeing victim and the officers. Following the gunfire, the suspect reportedly retreated into the building, activated fire alarms, and barricaded himself inside, prompting an immediate evacuation of hotel patrons.
