Christian Arango from Deltona has been sentenced by a U.S. District court following his guilty plea to charges related to child sexual abuse material.
Christian Alberto Arango, a 33-year-old resident of Deltona, has been sentenced by U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger to eight years and one month in federal prison. The charges against Arango include receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material, as confirmed by federal prosecutors.
In addition to his prison sentence, Arango will face 10 years of supervised release. He is also required to register as a sex offender and forfeit the computer and cellphone used during the offenses.
Arango had entered a guilty plea on June 11. The investigation revealed that he purchased child sexual abuse material during an FBI-led probe into individuals producing and selling these materials online. On November 13, 2023, FBI agents searched Arango’s home, seizing his computer and cellphone which contained over 500 images and more than 600 videos of child sexual abuse, some depicting victims as young as toddlers.
During an interview with FBI agents in February, Arango admitted to purchasing and downloading hundreds of such images since approximately 2018. This case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Del Mastro, as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice focused on combating child exploitation and abuse.
The severe sentencing highlights the ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to address and curb child exploitation. Arango’s case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in such criminal activities.
