In an inspiring turn of events, a bull terrier named ‘Trooper,’ who was discovered tied to a fence alongside I-75 during the chaos of Hurricane Milton evacuations, has been welcomed into a loving home in Parkland, Florida. The dog was found by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper amid the evacuation rush, and his journey to safety culminated in his adoption by Frank and Carla Spina.

When the Spinas first learned about Trooper’s plight, they were drawn to him, considering their long-standing affection for bull terriers, having raised this breed for 34 years. Frank Spina shared his immediate determination to adopt Trooper, stating that he was convinced, ‘we need to go get him.’ Despite concerns raised by the shelter about Trooper’s past negative reactions to males, Frank was undeterred.

Upon the availability of adoption forms, the Spinas eagerly applied, accompanying their application with a heartfelt two-page letter detailing their admiration for the breed. Initially, the shelter expressed hesitation due to Trooper’s previous experiences with a male abuser, but Frank reassured them of his intention and ability to bond with the dog.

The couple’s visit to meet Trooper cemented the adoption process. Frank described how Trooper swiftly warmed up to him during their first interaction, essentially sealing the connection between them. Frank recounted how Trooper approached him and settled comfortably, indicating mutual trust and affection.

Trooper’s introduction to Dallas, the Spinas’ other bull terrier, also went smoothly. Frank described the meeting as animated, noting Dallas’s enthusiastic reaction, as if she was meeting her ‘Prince Charming.’ This compatibility assured the shelter that Trooper was destined for a fulfilling life with the Spinas.

Now residing in Parkland, Trooper is thriving in his new environment. He enjoys taking neighborhood walks with Dallas and spending leisure time watching football with his new family. The Spinas estimate him to be around three years old and remark on his good health and happiness.

The story of Trooper is a heartening testament to the resilience of animals and the transformative power of compassion. With the dedication of his new family, Trooper has transitioned from a precarious situation to a stable and joyful home. His experience underscores the significant impact that empathy and commitment can have on rescue animals.
