A motorist was killed early Sunday morning on the North Freeway after her disabled vehicle was struck from behind in the travel lanes, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The fatal collision occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 14500 block of Interstate 45. Sgt. Kamali of the Sheriff’s Office stated that the female driver of a Honda Fit had stopped in the second lane of the highway after sustaining a flat tire.
Investigators reported that a Jeep Wrangler traveling in the same lane rear-ended the stationary Honda. The force of the impact caused the Jeep to roll onto its side. Authorities confirmed that the woman driving the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sgt. Kamali, the driver of the Jeep was unable to see the stopped vehicle in time. Deputies explained that another vehicle traveling directly in front of the Jeep changed lanes abruptly at the last moment to avoid the hazard, leaving the Jeep driver with insufficient time to react. Investigators noted that the Jeep driver showed no signs of intoxication, was traveling at the posted speed limit, and was not injured in the crash.
