Authorities in Ferozepur have registered a case against eight individuals after a police officer was shot and wounded during a raid targeting suspected drug smuggling in the village of Naju Shah Mishriwala. The incident occurred when a police team confronted a man believed to be involved in narcotics sales, leading to a violent altercation.
The investigation began after police received a tip regarding Pavitar Singh, who was allegedly selling drugs in the area. According to Sub-inspector Davinder Singh Garcha, a team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Balwant Singh was dispatched to investigate. Upon their arrival, an argument reportedly broke out between the officers and Pavitar Singh, who was recently out on bail, and his brother.
The situation escalated when Pavitar’s father, Gurdit Singh, along with another man, Jasvir Singh Boney, and four unidentified individuals arrived and clashed with the police. During the confrontation, ASI Balwant Singh’s service revolver fell to the ground. Police officials state that Jasvir Singh picked up the firearm and shot ASI Singh in the jaw.
The wounded officer is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Those named in the First Information Report (FIR) are Pavitar Singh, Gurdit Singh, and Jasvir Singh Boney, along with five unidentified persons. All accused individuals are currently at large.
