The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced the order was rescinded at approximately 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday after the situation was brought under control.

Incident Details

The initial alert was issued at 6:59 p.m. Monday for a half-mile radius surrounding the 800 block of Hayloft Lane. The Fountain Fire Department reported on social media that residents in the immediate vicinity were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The cause of the incident was identified as a leak in a gas main.

Response and Resolution

Crews from Black Hills Energy were dispatched to the scene to conduct repairs on the damaged gas main. During the several-hour-long incident, the Sheriff’s Office advised residents in the affected area to remain indoors, close all windows and doors, and turn off heating and cooling systems to prevent gas from entering their homes.
