- Terms of the resolution are confidential; case closed as of February 2.
The estate of a semi-truck driver killed during a high-speed pursuit in 2024 has reached a settlement with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the estate of the state trooper who also died in the incident. The agreement formally resolves a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from the fatal crash on Interstate 95.
According to Oliver Silva, the attorney representing the estate of truck driver Arsenio Más, an "amicable resolution" was reached with the FHP and the estate of Trooper Zachary Fink on January 8. Both Más and Fink sustained fatal injuries during the course of the high-speed chase in 2024, which ultimately involved a collision between the commercial vehicle and the patrol unit.
Court records confirm that the case was officially closed on February 2. While the settlement brings the litigation to an end, Silva stated that the specific terms of the agreement are confidential. Consequently, the financial payout amount and other conditions of the resolution will not be disclosed to the public.
Civil Litigation Resolution
The settlement marks the procedural conclusion of the civil liability claims arising from the 2024 tragedy. In wrongful death litigation involving state law enforcement agencies, out-of-court settlements are a common mechanism to resolve disputes regarding negligence and liability without enduring a prolonged public trial. The inclusion of confidentiality clauses is standard practice in such agreements, serving to finalize the legal matters for the grieving families while limiting public disclosure of the negotiation specifics.
