The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has implemented new drone flight restrictions in critical areas of New Jersey, focusing on power stations and infrastructure. This move comes amid growing concerns over alleged drone sightings in the region.
The FAA has announced 22 Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) for drones, effective over key New Jersey infrastructure sites. The restrictions limit drone operations to an altitude of 400 feet, ensuring that civilian airplanes and helicopters are not affected. These measures are primarily intended to safeguard power stations such as Cedar Grove Switching Station, Athenia Switching Station, Hudson Switching Station, PSE&G Kearny Switching Station, and Bayonne Switching Station.
This initiative marks the most significant clampdown on airspace since a surge in drone panic began about a month ago. Authorities, however, assure the public that there is no current threat to safety or national security linked to these drone activities. While drone enthusiasts may view these measures as restrictive, they are deemed necessary to protect critical infrastructure from potential threats.
Further restrictions were already in place over notable locations like Trump’s golf course in Bedminster and Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research facility, since November 26. These new measures, operational until January 17, reflect a collaborative effort between the FAA and federal security partners to ensure infrastructural security.
