In a heartwarming turn, a bull terrier named Trooper found a loving home in Parkland, Florida, after a distressing abandonment during Hurricane Milton. As the hurricane approached, Trooper was discovered by Florida Highway Patrol officers on the I-75 in Tampa, tied to a fence and clearly suffering from prior abuse.
Frank Spina recalls the moment Trooper was found: ‘When we received them, he was still raw,’ reflecting on the visible signs of abuse inflicted by his former owners. This heart-wrenching scene moved Carla Spina to tears as she exclaimed, ‘Oh, my God, we have to save this dog. It’s just, who could do that?’
FHP officers, upon rescuing the dog, aptly named him Trooper and transported him to safety, kickstarting his journey to a new life. Initially placed at Hillsborough County shelter, Trooper was then moved to the Leon County Humane Society to escape the pending storm. Carla reminisces, ‘First he was at Hillsborough County shelter. Then they transported him, because of the storm, to Leon County Humane Society. Poor thing then went to a great foster home.’
Trooper’s stay at the foster home lasted four weeks before fate introduced him to Frank and Carla Spina. The couple, moved by his story, eagerly drove over seven and a half hours from Parkland to Tallahassee to meet him. Frank, who has extensive experience with pets, said, ‘I’ve done this for 33 years. I just need five minutes.’ In just 60 seconds, Trooper was comfortably at his feet, responding with a smile.
Now part of the Spina family, Trooper not only has new loving parents but also a sister, Dallas, another rescued Bull Terrier. ‘He’s daddy’s boy,’ Frank said, emphasizing the bond that quickly formed. Adjusting to his new surroundings over the past month, Trooper seems to have found solace and happiness after such a tumultuous start.
Frank and Carla hope their example inspires others to consider adopting animals in need of homes. Their heartfelt message resonates with animal lovers everywhere as they showcase Trooper’s transformation and highlight the positive impact of giving such animals a second chance.
Trooper’s journey from abandonment to a loving family underlines the profound impact of rescue and adoption. In the face of adversity, the Spina family’s dedication and compassion showcase the potential for recovery and happiness, encouraging others to open their hearts to animals in need.
