According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash involved two pickup trucks near the intersection of Okeechobee Road and Krome Avenue. At approximately 5 a.m., reports of the collision were received, involving a Dodge pickup and a Ford pickup. The driver of the Dodge, identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Ford was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center and remains in critical condition.
Emergency crews were present at the scene for several hours after the incident, working diligently to manage the situation. Aerial footage captured by Chopper 6 provided a grim view of the aftermath, displaying both vehicles with significant front-end damage. The deceased driver was respectfully covered by a yellow tarp, highlighting the severity of the impact.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined as the investigation continues. In the meantime, the southbound lanes of Okeechobee Road remain closed to facilitate the ongoing investigative work. Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes, such as the Turnpike and U.S. 27, to avoid potential delays in the area.
