FBI Stops Suspected Plot in South Florida

In recent developments, the FBI has successfully intervened to prevent a potential attack targeting a South Florida office affiliated with the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Forrest Kendall Pemberton was apprehended on December 25th, following allegations of traveling from Alachua County to Plantation with the intent to locate the AIPAC office.

His journey reportedly included carrying multiple firearms and scouting various locations, among them a former AIPAC office on Pine Island Road in Plantation and a local IRS office nearby, as stated in court documents.

Before embarking on his trip, Pemberton allegedly left a farewell note for his family, which investigators believe was part of his plan to return armed, including with an AR-15 rifle, to execute a potential attack.

Upon arrest, Pemberton was found in a rideshare vehicle coinciding with the onset of Hanukkah, raising concerns about the timing and potential impact of his planned actions.

When questioned about his intentions, investigators noted that Pemberton was uncertain about whether he would turn the attack into a ‘mass casualty’ event or take his own life, contingent upon his capture.

Pemberton’s motivation, as revealed in legal documents, stemmed from his frustration with political dynamics and a desire to disrupt the status quo. He selected AIPAC as a target due to its political significance and strategic location.

Federal charges of stalking have been filed against Pemberton, and he is scheduled for a court appearance next Monday in Alachua County.

The FBI’s timely intervention underscores the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in averting threats to public safety.
