In a significant development in the case surrounding the murder of Jacksonville rapper Charles Jones, better known as “Julio Foolio,” a fifth suspect has been apprehended in Jacksonville after evading capture for over six months.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service, successfully detained Davion Murphy, 27, at an apartment complex in Jacksonville. His arrest marks a crucial point in the investigation, as authorities have been pursuing him post his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting on June 23.
Murphy stands accused as one of the suspects responsible for the attack that took the life of the 26-year-old rapper. The crime is believed to have been part of an ongoing conflict between rival gangs. According to law enforcement, five individuals had traveled to Tampa with the intention to carry out the shooting, reflecting the intense feud between rival groups.
The other individuals charged in the murder include Rashad Murphy, Isaiah Chance, Alicia Andrews, and Sean Gathright. They face serious allegations, with some serving as “lookouts” as the rapper visited two Tampa clubs in celebration of his birthday on June 22. The night ended in tragedy when three shooters reportedly ambushed Jones’ vehicle at the Home2Suites near the University of South Florida, resulting in his death.
Prosecutors are currently considering whether to pursue the death penalty for those involved. Rashad Murphy and Isaiah Chance are believed to have affiliations with gangs “ATK” and “1200,” opposed to Jones’ own group, “6 Block.” This rivalry has purportedly fueled a decade-long series of violent incidents, contributing to Julio Foolio’s untimely demise.
Surveillance footage from the night of the murder has been presented in court proceedings, supporting the narrative that the attack was premeditated. The video shows the suspects in action, providing critical evidence for the prosecution.
The case has drawn attention to the ongoing violence between these gangs, with authorities citing multiple murders associated with the feud. Detectives assert that “ATK” and “1200” collaborated specifically to target Jones, inflaming tensions in Jacksonville’s rap scene.
Prior to the fatal incident, Jones had made known his presence in Tampa via social media, hinting at the fateful events that followed his birthday celebration.
The arrest of Davion Murphy represents a pivotal advancement in the investigation into Julio Foolio’s murder, underscoring the seriousness of gang-related violence and the persistent efforts of law enforcement to address it.
