In a recent development in Big Coppitt Key, Florida, a local firefighter has been apprehended due to suspected drug-related activities, casting a shadow on the community.
Austin Michael Kimbler, aged 28 and an employee of the Key West Fire Department since July 2018, has been arrested on multiple felony drug charges following several reports of ongoing drug activity at his residence. The arrest unfolded on New Year’s Eve, prompted by a search warrant executed by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) at Kimbler’s home on Del Mar Boulevard.
Early Tuesday morning, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Kimbler’s Jeep Gladiator. With assistance from a K9 unit, officers discovered illegal substances, including a glass vial of testosterone enanthate, a known anabolic steroid, and a trace of ‘tusi’ or ‘pink cocaine’—a potent party drug comprising various elements. This particular drug had previously been highlighted in the media due to its alleged connection to a fatal incident in Miami.
Upon further search of Kimbler’s residence, deputies uncovered several items of interest, including multiple baggies and a straw with cocaine residue, as well as five glass bottles and four vials containing different anabolic steroids. Additionally, authorities found two pill bottles containing stanozolol and clomifene, a drug banned in sports for its use in performance enhancement, and an electronic scale showing traces of cocaine.
Kimbler, who now faces five felony and two misdemeanor charges, was subsequently released on a $20,000 bond. This incident has sparked discussions within the community regarding the conduct and responsibilities of emergency service personnel. A predetermination hearing regarding Kimbler’s employment status with the Key West Fire Department has been scheduled for the following Monday.
