Brianna Alvelo, a pizza deliverer, was charged after allegedly forcing her way into a motel room with an accomplice and stabbing a pregnant woman. The altercation began when the woman, after receiving her pizza, handed Alvelo $50 for a $33.10 bill, expecting change. As Alvelo turned to leave, the woman requested her change, but Alvelo reportedly stated that making change wasn’t standard policy, as per the arrest report.
The woman, attempting to rectify the situation, searched through her belongings and even sought assistance from her boyfriend to find smaller currency. Ultimately, Alvelo was left with a $2 tip, which did not appear to satisfy her, as she allegedly ‘rolled her eyes and walked away without a word.’
Later, as the woman, her boyfriend, and their young daughter were asleep, they were awakened by a knock on their motel room door. Upon answering, the woman was confronted by Alvelo and a male accomplice, both masked, who forced their way inside. The man is said to have ordered the woman’s boyfriend into the bathroom while Alvelo searched their possessions before attacking the woman with a pocket knife.
The woman, in an attempt to protect her daughter, sustained 14 stab wounds and was subsequently hospitalized with a punctured lung. It was during her treatment that she was found to be a few weeks pregnant. Alvelo faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, home invasion with a weapon, kidnapping, and aggravated assault.
The male accomplice remains unidentified, and Alvelo has requested legal representation, stating her inability to afford an attorney. The case has stirred significant attention, highlighting issues of violence following disputes and the challenges faced by service workers.
