Florida Man Arrested After Alleged Armed Standoff with Contractor

In Polk County, authorities arrested a man accused of threatening a contractor at gunpoint during an attempted carjacking. The suspect, who claims to have ‘blacked out’ on drugs, was apprehended in a wooded area after fleeing the scene.

According to law enforcement, Erasuro Mascorro Jr., aged 30, approached a Frontier Communications contractor in Wahneta, Florida. Mascorro allegedly threatened the contractor with a handgun while the latter was near his work vehicle. However, the vehicle doors were locked, preventing Mascorro from entering.

The incident took place around 4:20 p.m. at the intersection of 1st Street West and Rifle Range Road. Following the confrontation, the contractor promptly left the scene and notified authorities via 911, leading to the deployment of a Polk County Sheriff’s K-9 unit.

Officers tracked down an individual matching the suspect’s description on Bomber Road. Upon approach, Mascorro attempted to evade capture by fleeing into nearby woods. Nevertheless, K-9 Ketchum managed to secure the suspect, who was then positively identified by the victim.

Upon interrogation, Mascorro admitted to prior use of methamphetamine and PCP earlier in the day, attributing his actions to a subsequent blackout. Despite his claimed amnesia regarding the event, the evidence led to his arrest.

Sheriff Grady Judd described Mascorro as armed and dangerous, highlighting his history of violent behavior. “Erasuro Mascorro is a very dangerous individual,” Judd stated. “I’m proud of my deputies who quickly apprehended this fleeing felon. He is a danger to the community.”

Mascorro’s criminal history includes previous arrests for offenses such as meth possession, battery on a pregnant woman, and child abuse. Consequently, he faces charges including attempted armed carjacking, aggravated assault, and firearm possession as a convicted felon.

This incident reflects ongoing challenges in addressing violent crimes linked to substance abuse in the community. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office continues efforts to safeguard residents against individuals posing significant threats.

Erasuro Mascorro Jr. remains in custody, facing serious charges that underscore the dangers associated with substance-induced criminal activities. The swift actions of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office demonstrate a robust response to threats against public safety.
