In response to the catastrophic floods of 2023, this project was fast-tracked to completion. The new system includes two pump stations equipped with six high-capacity pumps, each with capabilities reaching up to 136 horsepower. This significant investment, exceeding $10 million, is part of a broader $50 million strategy to improve stormwater management across the city.
Mayor Dean Trantalis remarked on the historical lack of proper infrastructure in many parts of Fort Lauderdale, acknowledging that efforts should have commenced much earlier. “We should have started this years ago, but it’s happening today,” he stated.
