Jequan Lawrence, 24, was taken into custody on Tuesday in Charlotte by the U.S. Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force and local law enforcement.

Lawrence is the suspect in the shooting death of 31-year-old Michael P. Williams on March 15, 2023. According to Waterbury police, Williams was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Walnut Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation led to an arrest warrant for Lawrence on charges including murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.

After determining that Lawrence had fled the state, the Waterbury Police Department collaborated with the U.S. Marshals to locate him. The task force tracked him to a residence in Charlotte, where he was apprehended without incident.
