Greek Coast Guard Officer Remanded in Custody Over Alleged Heroin Purchases

A Greek Coast Guard officer has been remanded in custody following accusations that he purchased heroin from a suspected drug dealer in Athens, according to police statements released on Thursday. The officer, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, is alleged to have engaged in multiple transactions with a known narcotics suspect.

Authorities report that the officer purchased heroin from the 49-year-old suspect on at least eight separate occasions throughout November. Law enforcement officials stated that the serviceman was carrying two small packets of the drug at the time of his arrest.

Following the officer’s detention, police conducted a raid on the suspected dealer’s residence, where they reportedly discovered additional narcotics and 500 euros in cash. During the operation, the 49-year-old suspect allegedly swallowed several packets of drugs and physically assaulted the arresting officers. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention and is expected to be questioned by an investigating magistrate.

The Coast Guard officer was brought before a prosecutor shortly after his arrest and has been ordered held in custody. Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with three additional suspects currently being sought in connection with the alleged drug network.
