GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 30-year-old woman faces charges in connection with a fatal collision on Interstate 785 that resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Officers responded to the crash site near Clapp Farms Road on December 13. Investigators determined that a Kia Optima, driven by 49-year-old Arnold Dzorgbadzor, was stationary in the travel lanes when it was struck from the rear by a Ford Bronco.

Dzorgbadzor sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified the driver of the Bronco as Samantha Winfree, 30. Following an assessment of the collision, authorities charged Winfree with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed.

According to police statements, investigators do not believe impairment or excessive speed were factors in the crash.

Investigative Outlook

The filing of misdemeanor charges rather than felony charges typically indicates that investigators did not find evidence of malice, gross negligence, or intoxication, but rather a violation of traffic safety laws that resulted in a fatality. The ongoing inquiry will likely focus on determining why Dzorgbadzor’s vehicle was stopped in an active travel lane, a critical factor in reconstructing the sequence of events. As the case proceeds through the judicial system, prosecutors will review the crash reconstruction data. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
