A kitchen fire at a popular Brickell restaurant led to significant smoke issues on Saturday afternoon, raising concerns among local residents and businesses.
At around 12:47 p.m., the City of Miami Fire Rescue was alerted to a kitchen fire at the well-known Zuma Restaurant, located at 270 Biscayne Blvd. The blaze originated inside the vent of a kitchen hood, according to officials.
Video footage captured from the scene shows thick smoke billowing from the EPIC Hotel, where the restaurant is situated, blanketing parts of the nearby Brickell Avenue Drawbridge. Despite the alarming visuals, authorities confirmed that no injuries resulted from the incident, and the fire did not affect the EPIC Hotel itself.
However, the Zuma Restaurant has sustained considerable smoke and water damage in its kitchen area, leading to its temporary closure. Miami Fire Rescue reported that the building’s sprinkler system was activated, significantly aiding in suppressing the fire. Fire crews continued efforts to extinguish any remaining ‘hot spots’ within the ventilation system.
The incident, reported widely across social media platforms, prompted discussions among locals about fire safety in high-density urban areas. Residents are reminded of the importance of maintaining functional fire safety systems within homes and businesses to prevent similar occurrences.
As investigations continue into the cause of the kitchen fire, the focus remains on ensuring safety and preventing future incidents. The quick response and effective firefighting efforts highlight the importance of preparedness and robust emergency systems.
