In a recent incident in Lake Wales, Florida, a homeowner took decisive action when faced with an intruder inside his home.
The homeowner was awakened during the night by his dog’s barking, alerting him to the presence of an intruder. Upon arming himself, he discovered a 34-year-old man, Cameron McGuire, inside his residence, holding his child’s belongings.
According to the Lake Wales Police Department, despite the homeowner’s command to “freeze,” the suspect continued to advance. The homeowner then shot McGuire in the leg, effectively immobilizing him. Lake Wales Police Chief, Chris Velasquez, commented on the situation, stating, “This homeowner is a law-abiding citizen and had every right to protect his family. Cameron McGuire should be thankful today that he is alive and in jail. Hopefully, this was his wake-up call.”
Investigations revealed that McGuire had entered the home by climbing through a kitchen window. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting and McGuire was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment before being taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and theft.
It was reported that McGuire has a history of criminal activities, including drug possession and domestic battery by strangulation. He had recently been released from state prison in February, adding another layer of concern to the incident.
The quick actions of the Lake Wales homeowner showcase the importance of vigilance and the right to protect one’s home and family. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers posed by intruders, and the legal implications for those who choose to engage in such crimes.
