Unemployment claims in Illinois experienced a decline last week, marking a decrease in initial filings for jobless benefits according to the latest figures from the U.S. Department of Labor. Claims fell to 9,297 for the week ending April 12, a reduction from the previous week’s total of 10,615.

Nationally, the number of unemployment claims also saw a decrease, dropping to 215,000 from 224,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This reflects a reduction of 9,000 claims week over week.

Among the states, Kentucky registered the most significant percentage increase in weekly claims, with a dramatic rise of 187.3%. In contrast, Tennessee recorded the largest percentage decline, with new claims decreasing by 47.8%.

The story is part of a broader effort by the USA TODAY Network to provide localized reports, utilizing data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s weekly unemployment insurance claims report. The information is widely distributed across various news platforms nationwide.
