An incident involving an 11-year-old boy being attacked by a dog in Deerfield Beach has brought attention to concerns about dog ownership and safety.
Stephen Pierre, the young victim, recounted the troubling occurrence to a local news station shortly after his release from the hospital. The incident took place at the Deerfield Palm Condominium as the boy was on his way to church. Pierre noted that the attack by the dog was entirely unexpected.
While approaching the scene, Pierre observed a man struggling with his pets in the hallway. “Three dogs, they were pushing him around,” he reported. As he continued, Pierre stated that he inadvertently made contact with one of the dogs, leading to the aggressive response. “He pounced on my hand,” Pierre recalled, detailing how the canine lunged at him and bit his hand.
In response, the dog’s owner attempted to intervene. “The owner was hitting him, so he could get my hand out of his mouth,” said Pierre. Eventually, Pierre’s hand was freed, though he described the experience as painful. It was during this struggle that Pierre alleged the dog also turned on its owner, with all three dogs attacking him.
Elette Dorsainvil, Pierre’s mother, expressed the fear she felt during the event, emphasizing the potential for an even graver outcome. She recounted her son’s cries for help: “Mom, I’ve something in my hand, the dog bit me,” prompting her to call emergency services.
Following the distressing episode, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue quickly dispatched deputies and paramedics to the location. Subsequently, Broward County Animal Control took custody of the dogs involved. The dog’s owner and Pierre required medical attention, with Pierre undergoing a series of stitches for his injuries.
Broward County Animal Care has confirmed the presence of three American Staffordshire Terrier mixes at the scene. Notably, only one of the dogs was held accountable for the biting incident. Additionally, during the commotion, a firearm was discharged, although it did not result in injuries to any of the dogs.
This alarming event highlights the significant responsibilities that come with pet ownership and the need for preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences in the future. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the matter.
