Inspections by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation have led to several restaurant closures in South Florida due to health violations, including concerning findings at a Pembroke Park establishment.
In a recent sweep of inspections, several South Florida restaurants faced temporary closures due to critical health violations uncovered by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Among these, a Pembroke Park restaurant drew particular attention due to unsanitary conditions, including the presence of rodent droppings in food preparation areas.
Approximately 30 rodent droppings were found inside a panko breadcrumb container in the kitchen of the restaurant. This disturbing discovery was among multiple issues cited during the inspection. Such a condition prompts a ‘Stop Sale’ on any food items that have been deemed unfit for consumption due to contamination.
The inspection report also highlighted significant non-compliance with food safety standards, including issues with temperature control for food safety. Various food items were found to be held at temperatures exceeding the recommended 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Specifically, raw hamburger patties and fish were recorded at temperatures of 48 and 45 degrees, respectively. These findings point to potential risks of foodborne illnesses.
In addition to the rodent activity and temperature issues, inspectors noted that food-contact surfaces were not adequately cleaned. The presence of mold-like substances and food debris on tools such as can openers were cited as violations. These conditions necessitated immediate corrective actions to prevent food contamination.
Other restaurants in the area faced similar scrutiny and were temporarily shuttered pending re-inspection. A total of 17 violations were reported at another establishment due to similar health infractions, including expired licenses, improper food storage, and unclean kitchen environments. In all cited cases, corrective measures were required before these venues could resume normal operations.
The safety of patrons is a primary concern for health inspectors, and these findings underline the importance of adherence to food safety regulations. Restaurants are expected to maintain high sanitation standards to ensure that food served to customers is safe and wholesome.
The inspection findings serve as a stark reminder of the importance of rigorous health standards in the food service industry. While the affected establishments have been allowed to reopen following corrective measures, ongoing compliance will be crucial to prevent future violations. The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation remains vigilant in its efforts to safeguard public health.
