KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A 28-year-old man currently on parole for prior robbery convictions was arrested Wednesday in connection with a Sunday armed robbery, according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS).
Authorities identified the suspect as Tazman Montel Jefferson. The investigation was initiated following an armed robbery reported Sunday on Conant Street, east of Douglas Avenue. Police reports indicate that the suspect allegedly threatened a victim with a firearm and demanded money before fleeing the scene.
Officers with the KDPS Crime Reduction Team located Jefferson on Wednesday on West Paterson Street, approximately half a mile from the location of the incident. According to the department, Jefferson attempted to flee on foot upon sighting law enforcement but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
During the arrest, officers recovered a Chiappa M4-22 firearm and what authorities described as "distribution quantities" of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl. A subsequent search of a residence on Interfaith Boulevard near Woodward Avenue yielded additional evidence linked to the Sunday robbery, police stated.
Jefferson was arraigned Friday on various drug and weapons charges. Charges specifically related to the armed robbery remain pending. His bond has been set at $200,000.
