Jewel Bauer, who regularly brings her husband, Bruce, to the center, expresses relief at having such a resource nearby. At 74, Bruce is navigating early-onset Alzheimer’s, and the center offers a safe space for him.
Jewel shares her gratitude, stating, ‘Just that I’m so happy to have them in our neighborhood and the whole staff, the caring attitudes that they have.’ The support provided by the Neighborly Care Network daycare centers allows Jewel to manage her household tasks without constant worry. ‘Taking him to daycare allows me to go to the store, focus on what I need to buy for groceries or whatever, or whatever other tasks there are,’ she notes, appreciating the temporary respite the center offers.
The daycare, which operates on weekdays, is designed to help seniors engage in various activities, from puzzling and crafts to light physical exercises. These activities are not only enjoyable but also help in maintaining mental acuity. Lee Ploski, the Nurse Manager at the center, explains that mental stimulation is a key component of the activities offered, emphasizing the importance of keeping the mind active.
Jewel highlights the personalized approach of the center’s staff, noting, ‘They hone in on what that person is interested in.’ This attention to individual interests makes the experience enriching for seniors. The Largo Adult Day Center is indeed making a positive impact in the community by providing a valuable service. While there is a fee for attending, some may qualify for free enrollment, making it accessible for more families.
