A new lawsuit has been initiated against a prominent Miami-based cruise company following revelations of a former cabin steward’s illicit activities involving hidden cameras.
This legal action follows the disturbing discovery of the steward’s use of concealed cameras in guest accommodations to record patrons, including minors as young as two. The lawsuit, brought forth by a dozen plaintiffs from various U.S. states, was filed by a well-known law firm in Miami federal court. The firm publicly announced this legal pursuit earlier this week.
The accused, Arvin Joseph Mirasol, a Filipino national, was apprehended by authorities at Port Everglades earlier this year. Following his arrest, Mirasol admitted guilt to charges related to the production of child sexual abuse material, resulting in a 30-year imprisonment sentence.
The plaintiffs in this case allege that the cruise line did not adequately inform affected passengers of the steward’s actions, stating that the company aimed to obscure the incident to prevent potential legal claims. The lawsuit highlights the passengers’ distress over the potential circulation of compromising footage online.
There is also a notable claim within the lawsuit that the cruise line did not take sufficient preventive measures against known issues of sexual misconduct on its vessels. The document points to past incidents aboard the cruise line’s ships and criticizes the lack of necessary security protocols and training to avert such violations.
Spencer Aronfeld, the representative attorney for the plaintiffs, expressed concerns regarding the lingering uncertainty faced by the victims. He emphasized the indelible nature of images once they are distributed online and urged the cruise line to assume accountability for their former employee’s misconduct. Aronfeld advocated for heightened personnel screening processes to forestall future occurrences of such unsettling events.
The lawsuit remains pending, with the cruise line yet to respond formally to the allegations. This case adds to ongoing scrutiny of how the industry oversees its staff and protects its passengers from privacy violations.
