Lutz Resident Charged with DUI Manslaughter After Tragic US 41 Collision

A tragic accident occurred in Pasco County, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist and the arrest of a 72-year-old man from Lutz on charges of DUI manslaughter.

According to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Thursday evening. William Edward Ricks was driving a Ford Escape traveling southbound on US 41 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man from Largo was heading north on the same road, riding a Suzuki motorcycle. The collision happened when Ricks attempted a left turn onto Lake Floyd Drive, inadvertently moving into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

The young motorcyclist was quickly transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save him, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased shortly thereafter.

Subsequent investigation by the authorities led to the arrest of William Edward Ricks. Troopers later determined that Ricks was under the influence at the time of the crash, resulting in his arrest on the charge of DUI manslaughter.
