Marina police identified the suspect as Eduardo Munoz and took him into custody following a multi-agency response near the university’s student housing.
The incident began when Marina police received a 911 call reporting six or seven shots fired at 8th and Imjin Road, near the Promontory student housing. In response, university officials issued a campus alert instructing individuals to shelter in place. Police stated the alert was issued out of an abundance of caution.
According to authorities, Munoz fled from officers at the scene of the reported shots. He then allegedly attempted to carjack a driver who had slowed down to observe the police activity. “Subject ran up to one vehicle and attempted to gain access to it by opening the door… He was unsuccessful and continued to flee,” said Officer Mike Ball of the Marina Police Department. Munoz was apprehended shortly thereafter.
During the investigation, officers discovered a stolen and stripped car in the area where Munoz was first seen. While authorities have linked the vehicle to Munoz, they did not find a firearm. A test for gunshot residue on the suspect yielded inconclusive preliminary results. Police also noted a homeless encampment in a nearby wooded area but have not determined if it is connected to the incident.
