A Homestead resident, Francisco Moralez Jr., is under arrest facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian.
The incident unfolded on a Sunday night when Homestead police responded to a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. The accident occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Northwest Ninth Street near North Krome Avenue. Witnesses indicated that a newer-model black Chevrolet SUV, driven by 19-year-old Francisco Moralez Jr., fled the scene heading westward, as noted by Homestead police.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the injured pedestrian being treated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The victim suffered injuries, including a potential broken ankle, and was transported to Homestead Hospital for further medical care. Police secured additional evidence, such as surveillance footage from a nearby Mexican restaurant, which displayed the black Chevrolet Tahoe with silver wheels leaving the area.
Shortly thereafter, law enforcement spotted a vehicle matching the description near West Mowry Drive and Northwest 10th Street. As officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Moralez abandoned the vehicle and attempted to evade capture on foot. Despite his efforts, police maintained visual contact and apprehended him at Northwest Ninth Court.
During the arrest, Moralez was read his Miranda rights but opted not to provide any statements. Further investigation disclosed his involvement in another case concerning a stolen vehicle. The vehicle in question from the hit-and-run matched descriptions from the stolen vehicle report.
Following the chase, Moralez was taken to Homestead Hospital for medical evaluation before being officially detained. Jail records currently charge him with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious bodily injury and driving without a valid driver’s license.
As the investigation proceeds, Francisco Moralez Jr. remains in custody, facing significant legal consequences. This case underscores the seriousness of hit-and-run incidents and the swift action taken by law enforcement in such situations.
