Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Overdose in Florida Keys

A Big Pine Key resident has been arrested following an investigation into a fatal drug overdose, as reported by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Louis Van De GeJuchte, aged 47, is facing serious charges following the death of 45-year-old Mariah Goldsberry. Authorities allege that Van De GeJuchte provided the drugs that led to Goldsberry’s tragic overdose on September 14, 2024.

Already under custody from a prior arrest on September 18, 2024, for methamphetamine possession, Van De GeJuchte was identified as the supplier of the drugs involved in the fatal incident. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office did not reveal any personal relationship between Van De GeJuchte and Goldsberry.

Emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay stated, ‘The message is clear: If you sell deadly drugs in our community and someone dies as a result of those activities, you will be held accountable.’

Currently, Van De GeJuchte remains detained without bond at a Key West jail. Local authorities have not yet released his photograph despite requests made to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

This case highlights the ongoing battle against illegal drug distribution and the severe consequences for those involved. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reiterates its commitment to combating drug-related crimes in their community.
