A Miami-Dade County man is facing serious legal charges after being identified as the suspect in an ambush shooting that took place outside a southwest Miami-Dade apartment complex.
Kenneth Deandre Williams, 31, is accused of being the gunman in a shooting incident that occurred shortly after Christmas. Authorities have charged him with three felonies, including attempted murder. According to Miami-Dade police, surveillance footage captured Williams alongside several unidentified individuals arriving in a Hyundai Tucson at the Casa Matias apartments, located at 14340 SW 260th St. in the Princeton area.
The incident unfolded as Williams reportedly followed a person into the building and exited soon after. Minutes later, Williams approached the victim from behind as the victim emerged from the building and proceeded to shoot them. The surveillance footage was pivotal in identifying Williams as the suspect in this violent encounter.
Williams’s criminal history adds a layer of complexity to his charges. He has prior convictions for aggravated battery on a pregnant victim, armed robbery, and armed burglary. Following the shooting incident, Williams was arrested after being discovered by a Sunrise police officer at the Sawgrass Mills Mall, positioned in the passenger seat of the Hyundai Tucson. At the time of his arrest, he made statements to police that were described as ‘self-serving.’
Currently, Williams faces charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Given his previous criminal record, these charges carry substantial weight. As of the latest reports, he remains in custody without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
This case underscores the ongoing concerns of violence in the Miami-Dade area, highlighting the serious consequences that come from such criminal acts. As the legal process unfolds, the implications of this case will undoubtedly resonate throughout the community.
