A fireworks accident in Florida City led to a man being severely injured while allegedly selling illegal fireworks.
Police responding to the incident found the injured man near the 900 block of W. Lucy Street, where the mishap occurred outside the M7M Meat Market. According to the authorities, the man, who has not been identified, suffered a serious hand injury resulting in the loss of two fingers. He was reportedly selling fireworks from a U-Haul van when the accident happened.
The injured individual managed to drive himself to a friend’s residence in Homestead before being airlifted to Jackson South Trauma Center. He is currently in stable condition, as confirmed by the local police on Tuesday.
Upon inspecting the U-Haul van, officials found a mix of illegal fireworks, including some commercial grade types, which necessitated the intervention of the Miami-Dade County Police Bomb Squad to safely dispose of them. Witnesses at the scene noted the presence of blood on the side of the vehicle, emphasizing the severity of the accident.
