In a notable career shift, former Congressman Matt Gaetz has secured a prime-time talk show with the One America News Network (OAN), following his decision to withdraw from consideration for the position of U.S. Attorney General.
OAN announced that “The Matt Gaetz Show” will premiere in January, broadcasting on weeknights at 9 p.m. Eastern Time. This new position comes only weeks after Gaetz declined President-elect Donald Trump’s invitation to serve as the nation’s next Attorney General. In addition to his talk show, Gaetz is set to co-host a weekly political podcast with OAN’s Dan Ball, both projects commencing at the start of the new year.
Gaetz expressed enthusiasm for his new role, highlighting OAN’s innovative approach to media. He stated, “OAN is blazing a trail in media, embracing not just traditional news but the platforms where Americans are going—streaming, apps, podcasts, and social media.” Gaetz’s engagement with the network marks a significant transition from his political career in Congress.
Previously, Gaetz represented Florida’s 1st Congressional District and was reelected for what would have been his fifth term. However, he resigned after being nominated for the Attorney General position. His nomination was subsequently withdrawn when it became apparent that Senate confirmation was unlikely, prompting President-elect Trump to nominate Pam Bondi as Attorney General instead.
The withdrawal followed calls from Democrats for the release of a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit behavior by Gaetz, including drug use and inappropriate gifts. Although Gaetz has denied any allegations, the House recently voted against releasing the findings of the investigation.
