In a recent development, the Miami Police Department has apprehended a 27-year-old man following an alleged assault and abduction incident involving a 24-year-old woman last April. The serious nature of the attack left the victim in a critical condition, and authorities have now confirmed charges against the suspect.
The incident took place on April 12, 2024, in the backyard of a Liberty City residence near the 900 block of Northwest 55th Street. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the victim was found with severe injuries, including a broken nose, wrist, mandible, and lips. Her cries for help were heard by neighbors, who reported seeing two males at the scene.
Testimonies from witnesses played a crucial role in piecing together the events of that night. One witness recalled hearing a male voice commanding the victim to “shut the f— up.” The victim was reportedly seen bleeding from the face and running back and forth in distress. CCTV footage later corroborated these accounts, showing a male suspect forcefully managing the victim.
The victim was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where she underwent surgery and received intensive care. The trauma she endured required her to be intubated, and she managed to communicate the word “beaten” in writing when asked for a statement by the police. Her physical and emotional recovery from the ordeal continues.
Authorities conducted a thorough investigation, including the use of a rape kit which tested positive for evidence of sexual assault. The victim identified the suspect, Junior Christian Joseph, as a stranger and affirmed that their encounter was non-consensual. The police later captured Joseph after months of searching, thanks to the efforts of the Felony Apprehension Team.
During questioning, Joseph, initially requesting legal counsel, chose to speak without an attorney. He viewed the CCTV footage showing a man carrying a woman over his shoulder, which reportedly matched the description of the victim’s outfit. Despite denying the accusations, he now faces serious charges including sexual battery, aggravated battery, and kidnapping.
As of now, Joseph is being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, awaiting further legal proceedings.
