MILWAUKEE — Milwaukee police have launched a homicide and arson investigation following the discovery of a deceased individual inside a burning residence on the city’s north side late Monday night.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), officers and fire personnel responded to the scene near 26th and Hadley around 11:25 p.m. on January 5. Investigators reported that a 21-year-old male suspect “intentionally brandished” a firearm before setting the property on fire.

Emergency responders located a 22-year-old person inside the home. Despite life-saving attempts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased.

Police arrested the 21-year-old suspect in connection with the arson. MPD officials confirmed that criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office for review.
