Law enforcement authorities in the city of Nashik have significantly increased security protocols and intensified checks on vehicles and public establishments following a car blast that occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi on Monday. The city police have been placed on high alert as a precautionary measure.
DCP (crime) Kirankumar Chavan confirmed the elevated security status, stating that directives have been issued to all police stations to conduct rigorous inspections of suspicious vehicles. While routine patrols and roadblocks, known as ‘nakabandi’, are standard procedure, their frequency and intensity have been increased. Officers have been instructed to meticulously inspect all suspicious two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and other vehicles.
The security sweep extends to temporary accommodations, with police conducting thorough checks of hotels and lodges throughout the city to prevent potential criminal elements from using them for cover. The heightened vigilance also applies to rural areas surrounding Nashik, with SP Balasaheb Patil of the Nashik rural police noting that patrolling has been intensified, particularly in the areas of Malegaon and Trimbakeshwar.
A strict watch is being maintained over all major public gathering places, including shopping malls, bus stands, railway stations, and busy marketplaces. These measures supplement existing security restrictions in the region, such as the declaration of 16 sensitive locations as “no-drone-fly zones” in May 2022. These restricted areas include the School of Artillery, India Security Press, Currency Note Press, and the Air Force Station.
The comprehensive security response underscores the authorities’ proactive efforts to ensure public safety in Nashik and its surrounding territories following the incident in the nation’s capital.
