MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — A 47-year-old woman was killed Thursday after her SUV collided with the back of a semi-trailer on Interstate 41 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. The incident, which occurred just before noon, prompted the closure of the southbound lanes for several hours.

According to a statement from the Menomonee Falls Police Department, the crash took place on southbound I-41/US 45 near the border of Waukesha and Milwaukee counties. Investigators reported that the semi-trailer was slowing down when it was struck from behind by the sport utility vehicle.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the SUV, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, dead at the scene. The identity of the victim has not been publicly released pending notification of next of kin.

The collision resulted in significant traffic disruptions. Authorities closed all southbound lanes of I-41/US 45 from the crash site to County Line Road in Germantown. The freeway was fully reopened to traffic shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
