Philanthropist Allocates Significant Funds to Support SWFL Nonprofits

Tom Golisano, a prominent philanthropist and founder of a renowned HR and payroll firm, announced a substantial donation of $85 million to numerous nonprofits across Lee and Collier counties in Southwest Florida.

Golisano, well-known for his role in establishing a major human resources and payroll company, reported a revenue of $5.3 billion for 2024. In a statement, he expressed his belief that ‘the only wealth you keep is that which you give away,’ attributing the success of his company and its employees as enabling him to realize this vision.

The $85 million donation is set to benefit 41 organizations spanning various sectors, including education, health care, and animal welfare. Notably, $32 million is allocated to 12 organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Significant contributions include $10 million to the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida and Ave Maria University, as well as $5 million each to Naples Comprehensive Health, Easterseals of Southwest Florida, Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida, and STARability.

Golisano’s commitment to enhancing the capabilities of local nonprofits comes at a time when his total donations for the year have reached $500 million, elevating his lifetime philanthropic contributions to $860 million.

His recent announcement detailed the beneficiaries of his generosity: Golisano Children’s Hospital and Naples Comprehensive Health received substantial funds for health initiatives, while Ave Maria University and the Guadalupe Center secured support for educational endeavors.

Organizations dedicated to intellectual and developmental disabilities received notable backing. Among them are Best Buddies Southwest Florida, Beyond the Spectrum, Inc., and Family Initiative, each granted $1 million or more, alongside larger sums for others.

In the realm of community initiatives, the American Red Cross Southwest Florida and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southwest Florida were among those to receive targeted funding. Animal welfare organizations such as Animal Rescue Coalition and Cape Coral Animal Shelter were also beneficiaries, highlighting Golisano’s commitment to this cause.

Golisano’s extensive philanthropic efforts underscore his dedication to supporting and strengthening nonprofit organizations throughout Southwest Florida, demonstrating the impactful role that committed individuals can play in their communities.
