Police Pursue Armed Suspect in Miami Beach

Miami Beach witnessed a dramatic police chase as officers pursued an armed suspect, Jerrod Floyd, through the city’s streets.

Authorities released footage from a police body camera that captures the intense moments when officers chased Jerrod Floyd, a 26-year-old armed sex offender, on foot through Miami Beach. The chase unfolded on Tuesday in the 600 block of Ocean Drive after a report of a man with a gun prompted a swift police response. In the footage, a woman’s screams alerted officers to a potentially dangerous situation involving a firearm.

Upon spotting Floyd, officers instructed him to raise his hands, but he fled, leading to a pursuit detailed in an arrest report. During the chase, Floyd lost his pants and a cross-body bag containing a firearm when he jumped over a fence, snagging his clothes. He continued to evade capture by running into an alley until he encountered a closed gate. There, police apprehended him, placing him in handcuffs.

Reports reveal that after his arrest, Floyd gave officers a false identity. However, a records check exposed his real name and revealed that he faced two outstanding non-extraditable warrants in Georgia and Oregon. These warrants were linked to charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and attempted child sex crimes. In addition to these revelations, law enforcement discovered a fake license, a firearm, a magazine, and later, narcotics in Floyd’s vehicle.

Police spokesperson Christopher Bess commented on the situation, stating, “The male was acting erratically, and the firearm with one bullet in the chamber actually fell as he was waving it outside of the sunroof. Luckily, no one was injured, and our officers located a slew of drugs and alcohol inside the car.” Floyd is now facing multiple charges, including failing to report as a sexual offender, possessing a stolen or fictitious license, providing a false name after arrest, improper exhibition of a firearm, and resisting an officer without violence. He remains in custody with a bond set at $9,500.

This incident underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in quickly responding to dangerous situations. The swift actions of the Miami Beach police successfully neutralized a potential threat to public safety, highlighting the critical importance of diligent police work.
