UNION CITY, Ga. — Law enforcement authorities are conducting an active search for a masked gunman following a violent armed robbery at a Boost Mobile store in Union City on Monday that left an employee with a gunshot wound.

According to the Union City Police Department, the incident occurred at a retail location off Jonesboro Road in Clayton County. Investigators reported that a male suspect entered the business wearing a mask and brandishing a firearm before confronting a clerk. Police stated that a struggle ensued inside the establishment, during which the employee was shot.

Capt. Prentice Brooks of the Union City Police Department confirmed the details of the altercation. "There was a struggle with the clerk inside, and from there, the clerk was shot," Brooks told WSB-TV. The victim is reportedly recovering but is preparing for a second surgery to treat injuries sustained during the attack.

Detectives believe the suspect is also linked to a robbery that occurred on February 11 at a Dollar General store located less than five minutes from the scene of the shooting. While no injuries were reported in the previous incident, investigators noted matches in the suspect’s build, height, and skin tone across both cases.

Investigative Outlook

The escalation from an armed robbery with no injuries to a shooting within a two-week span represents a significant concern for local law enforcement regarding public safety in the commercial district. Police are prioritizing the identification of the suspect based on the pattern of escalating violence to prevent further harm to local workers and residents. It is important to note that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
